Baby showers are always a great time for an expectant mother. It is usually planned by the mother of the expectant mother, a friend, or a sister. Games are played at the baby shower, gifts are brought to the expectant parents, and those who may already be mothers give advice on how to care for the baby. A woman used to have only one baby shower for her firstborn child, but in today’s day and age some of them have more than one. Men aren’t usually in attendance at baby showers because they are traditionally for women.
Baby showers started in the late 1800's, and are referred to as a shower because all of the love, attention, and support that are given to the expecting mother. It was originally just a tea party to offer advice and gifts, but it has grown into a tradition since then. At that time, most of the gifts were handmade.
Baby showers generally have food and games for the guests. Some games that are played: Baby Shower Bingo, Guess the Birth Date or Guess the Sex, and Guess the Baby Food Flavor (just to name a few). In "Guess the Baby Food Flavor," guests have to taste some baby food and guess what the flavor is. There are also some non-traditional games that are played such as "Who Knows the Guest of Honor Best?". The guests are given trivia questions to see who has the most information on the expectant mother and who knows her best.
