Keeping Guests Involved

A baby shower isn’t just for the new baby, though most of the attention is directed that way. A baby shower is a time for the expectant parents to get together with friends and family to reminisce and share parenting stories. Since there is no way around hearing all the horror stories of childbirth and parenting, make a game of it.

You can incorporate this idea into the other games. For each game you play, the people who lose must tell a parenting story or embarrassing moment. You can keep guests involved here by putting all the names in a basket, and then draw a name, or two, and those people need to share a story. Keeping the guests involved in the activities makes for a more enjoyable party, and this is just one idea to help you do that.

Often times, a baby shower has a crowd of people who would not socialize together in other circumstances. The families and friends of both expectant parents may not always know each other. Any game that gets people visiting is a good game to start with. You can pin three diaper pins to each guest’s shirt as they arrive. When all the guests are there, you can give the instructions for the game. Any time someone says the word "baby," another person can take away one of their pins. At the end of the party, or at a certain time, the guest with the most pins wins. This game can last for hours, and it’s a great way to get the crowd mingling.
