Next to getting married, having a baby is the single most exciting event that can happen to anyone. It is a life-changing experience that affects even the most experienced parents.

When a mom finds out that she is expecting, a million thoughts cross her mind. What is the sex of the baby? Will she be healthy? What color will the baby's eyes be? But she also is likely to think about a baby shower. A baby shower is practically expected from expecting mothers nowadays. They have become very popular over the past few decades. Baby showers have traditionally been only for the mom-to-be, however, times are changing, and expecting fathers sometimes attend the celebration as well.

When moms are expecting, and baby showers are thrown for them, they do not expect gifts for themselves. However, it is always a nice gesture to buy a gift for mom as well as the baby. It is very easy for an expectant mother to feel unappreciated and worthless, and for her to feel that all of the attention is directed towards the baby, especially first time moms. Some great gift ideas for expectant mothers would be gifts such as: a gift card to her favorite restaurant, massage parlor, or shopping boutique. If all else fails, and you can't think of a perfect gift, what woman, pregnant or not, could turn down flowers?

Whatever gift you decide to buy for an expectant mom, you should make sure that it will not affect the baby negatively. Gifts such as perfume, powder, or scented lotions might not be good choices because the baby might be allergic to strong scents such as these.
