Plan a Great Baby Shower

Welcoming a new baby into the world is a joyous occasion, and new mothers deserve a party.  Organizing a baby shower is a wonderful gift you can give to the parents-to-be.  As with any party, careful planning and preparation before the gala event will ensure that everyone has a wonderful time, including the guest of honor.

Start by picking a date for your party with the parents and any out-of-town guests in mind.  Too early in the pregnancy is a time full of uncertainty and potential morning sickness (which can last all day), and too close to the due date and you could be canceling  at the last minute when the mother goes into labor the day of your party.  Consider having the shower after the baby is born.  This way gifts can be gender specific and the mother can show off her new bundle to everyone at once.  Ask the parents for a list of their closest friends and family.  Pick a theme for your shower.  Theme parties are fun to plan and even more fun to attend.  Decide whether the shower will be a “girls only” affair, or a couples party.  Decide on a location that will easily accommodate the number of guests invited and someplace easy to find and get to.  

Plan your menu with the mother in mind.  You can offer a luncheon or just cake, punch, and tea.  Always over estimate the amount of food you think you will need.  Consider hiring a caterer so that you can enjoy your party as much as your guests.  Above all, enjoy your party!  If the host is having fun, chances are the guests will too.
