Every mom has gear that she simply couldn't live without.  Of course, it varies from person to person, but there are few items that come in extremely handy that you might not have thought of.  If you are looking for gifts that are off the beaten path, but will make mom's life much easier in the long run, here are a few suggestions that you might find will come in handy.

Mom is going to have a lot of laundry on her hands in a few short weeks.  Consider putting together a "Laundry Help" basket full of supplies that other moms swear by.  Include baby-safe detergents like Dreft, Baby Oxy-Clean for stains, and appropriate baby approved softener.  You can include all the practical items in an adorable hamper or basket, perhaps with a few piece of clothing that she can wash later.

Or you could go with a gift that mom can use right now.  Many women spend time playing music for their little ones while still pregnant, so how about providing the guest of honor with some classical or lullaby CDs.  She will be able to provide her baby with some stimulation before it's born and then use the same music to help calm it to sleep later on.  You might pair it with a good book that every child should own, perhaps A.A. Milne or some other classical children's story. Thinking outside the gift box will help you find a present that will truly stand out among the rest.
